# Scan a barcode

> Use your phone camera to scan a product's UPC or EAN barcode, and on Business look up the product details automatically.

Scanning the barcode on a box or label is a quick way to record exactly which product you own.

## Steps

1. Open **Items** and click **Add Item**.
2. Click **Scan barcode** and allow camera access when your browser asks.
3. Point your camera at the product's UPC/EAN barcode. When it's read, the code is saved in the **UPC / Barcode** field.
4. On the **Business** plan, Claimfrog looks up the product and fills in its details. You can also click **Look up product** to run the lookup on a code you typed.

## Good to know

- No camera, or scanning not working? Type the number under **Or type the barcode number** and click **Use code**.
- The scanner is included on every plan. Automatic product lookup is a Business feature.
- A barcode identifies the product model, not your specific unit. For high-value items, also record the **serial number**. See [Receipts and serial numbers](https://www.claimfrog.com/help/receipts-and-serial-numbers).

## Troubleshooting

- **"Camera access was blocked."** Allow camera access for app.claimfrog.com in your browser settings, then try again.
- **"UPC Not Found."** Not every product is in the lookup database. Enter the details yourself.
